Jim joined TSG Consulting in 2005 after a long career in print and broadcast journalism during which he received more than 150 regional, national and international journalism awards. They came from such organizations as the Radio-Television News Directors Association, Public Radio News Directors Inc., the Associated Press, United Press International and the Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors, among others. 

His previous employers have included the Charleston Daily Mail, West Virginia Public Radio, WWVA/WOVK Radio in Wheeling, several radio stations in Ohio and the Public Affairs Department of the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation. He has more than three decades of experience in covering the West Virginia Legislature and more than three decades of experience covering other federal, state and local government bodies, as well as business, labor, environmental, medical and other issues. 

Jim is the author of two books: The Olmsted Story: A History of Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township, which came out in 2010 and is about his hometown in Ohio, and A History of the West Virginia Capitol: The House of State, which came out in 2012. He also has written articles published in national and regional magazines, the Columbus Dispatch and the Columbus Citizen-Journal. His broadcast reports have been carried on National Public Radio, ABC Radio, NBC Radio, Mutual Radio, Monitor Radio, the British Broadcasting Corp., the Macquarie Radio Network of Australia and the KDKA Radio Network of Pittsburgh. 

Jim is a cum laude graduate of The Ohio State University, where he majored in journalism with a minor in communications. He has a Master of Science degree in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia University.
